My Liebster Award :)

liebster

Thanks very much to The Film School for nominating me for the Liebster award! First time I’ve done this so hope you enjoy my answers.

The Liebster Award is an online award for bloggers to gain more support, recognition and just to get to know the person behind the blogger. It also helps others to discover new blogs and to build a sense of community in the blogging world.

I’m afraid I don’t know enough film bloggers to continue this chain reward 🙁 But I hope you enjoy my answers to the questions given to me!

These were my answers to the questions I was asked:

  1. Favourite movie of all time?

Such a tough question to open with! I feel as though I have settled in my heart that Pan’s Labyrinth is my favourite film. Not only is it one of Guillermo Del Toro’s greatest films both visually and thematically… such a gorgeously dark fantasy… but it also reminds me of my happy student days now; dragging my friends with me to see it. Even then I didn’t know Del Toro. What a way to introduce myself to the visionary!

  2. Favourite movie of the year?

Americans will be confused when I say The Revenant is my film of the year so far; the UK got that film this year while the US got it late last year. Room is the next best one, definitely this year!

  3. Favourite movie franchise?

You are asking me for a franchise? I don’t think there’s a favourite franchise that is consistently good any more… sadly.
    Alien… ruined…
    Terminator… ruined…
    The Matrix… ruined…
    Star Wars… haphazard..
So… even though there’s only two feature films… I have to go with How to Train Your Dragon. It does have episodic animations and shows, and a third film planned. For now, it is practically flawless unlike every other franchise. Great characters, awesome design work, music and really heartfelt storytelling.

  4. Worst cinema experience?

    Spider-man 3.
No, no, not just the film. But also what happened while watching it.
So imagine me with a good dozen university friends all hyped to see the new Spider-man film, only to be met with that experience. Oh dear… People were restless. People were mad. People were disappointed. But they stuck with it! This is Spider-man, it is Sam Raimi! It’ll get good!

Finally, the epic final battle! Over two hours of emo dancing, James-Franco-eating-pie nonsense have been endured for this… Spider-man is about to be killed!? Enemies loom over him, he reaches out a hand in hope……!?

The projection breaks. Can’t watch the ending.

  5. Favourite director?

    Guillermo Del Toro. Duh.

  6. Favourite movie snack?

I am a traditionalist: salted popcorn!

  7. In your opinion, who is the most underrated actor working today?

I want to say Doug Jones. Although it is really obvious, reading my answers so far, as to why I think that.

  8. Are there any movies that critics and fans generally love but you dislike?

    Apparently Boyhood.

  9. Biggest guilty movie pleasure?

Easy: the Transformers films. Yup. The Michael Bay ones. They are terrible movies, but damnit, its the only live action Transformers movies I got, and honestly… the 1980s cartoon wasn’t that hot either! Yeah, I said it.

  10. What are your other interests?

Creative writing, I am working towards publishing science fiction stories. I also enjoy video games and even a bit of cooking!

  11. Why do you love movies?

I’ve never known a time were I didn’t watch a lot of movies. From watching things as a kid like TRON, Legend, Star Wars and Jaws (from under a table) to growing up watching nearly hundreds of new films a year, I’ve always been passionate about movies and learned to be fascinated by the different opinions people can have towards films (rather than be disgusted by it!) How can one piece of art make such radically different opinions??

Congrats on the award! I had to chime in and say that I too count Spiderman 3 as one of my worst cinema experiences. Tobey’s emo-dance had me cringing!
